Description

Announcing an Anonymous Matching Challenge of $8,000!

As of 3 PM MT on September 24th, 2024, an anonymous alum from SJQ Class of '97 has generously pledged to match all gifts up to $8,000 to help us meet our scholarship goal! As of this time, every gift will be doubled thanks to this kind alum

For thousands of Utah Law students over the last 32 years, Associate Dean Reyes Aguilar was the first person we met from the U and our first warm welcome into law school. Many of us received scholarships awarded by Dean Aguilar, which set us on a course for a successful college experience and the freedom of facing less debt as we entered our careers. In honor of the more than three decades he spent overseeing Admissions and Financial Aid at the S.J. Quinney College of Law, our goal is to establish a scholarship in his name to support future law students.

Today, we invite you to pay it forward and support the Aguilar-Mingo Family “Here to Help” Scholarship to give future students facing financial need the same opportunity so many of us received. Please donate to the scholarship that honors Dean Aguilar and help future law students in the same way Dean Aguilar supported students throughout his career!

Donations are applied to...

All gifts will go directly to the Aguilar-Mingo Family Scholarship with the goal of endowing it at $25,000 to exist in perpetuity at the University of Utah. In the event that we do not raise $25,000 to meet the requirements for an endowed scholarship, the scholarship funds will be awarded outright to Utah Law students in need of financial assistance.

Why are donations necessary?

The Aguilar-Mingo Family “Here to Help” Scholarship in Law will support a need-based award for one or more worthy students per year, selected by the Dean of Law or their designee. This new scholarship seeks to acknowledge the support of Aguilar’s immediate family and in-laws, the Mingo family. The name reflects the personal support system that helped him along the way, which ties into the scholarship's focus on providing need-based financial support for law school students along their way.
